Rice balloons from North Korea

I live in Korea, specifically in South Korea.

Recently, balloons filled with trash or waste were sent by the wind from North Korea, where they’re living, to South Korea where I reside.

Since we share the land of the peninsula, even though there’s a demilitarized zone (South Korea is still technically at war!), it’s relatively easy for balloons to cross the ceasefire line and reach their destination.

Moreover, given the ongoing ceasefire status, it’s not only provocative but also potentially dangerous as these balloons could carry not just trash but even chemical weapons.

One wonders, what was Rocket Man thinking when engaging in such acts? While the specific intent remains unclear, it seems like South Korea’s political sphere and military are responding just as Rocket Man might have anticipated.

Could this provocative act be providing them with further justification for more actions, akin to the response of using loudspeakers to provoke North Korea?

Recent conflicts in the Middle East and Europe have shown that merely having military superiority doesn’t guarantee easy victory in war, a lesson understood by people worldwide.

Could Rocket Man be gaining confidence from this and following in his grandfather’s footsteps?

It’s a nonsensical thought, much like begging for rice because one is short on rice, as South Koreans often joke.

Thus, the 50 million people of South Korea are carrying on with their lives as usual, just like any other day.
